  • The OnePlus 7 and 7T phone series are finally getting their first beta builds of Oxygen OS 11.
  • The updates were expected to be released in December, but were delayed due to a data encryption problem.
  • The last open beta of Oxygen OS 11 is not the most stable and can result in several problems.

After a delay of more than a month, OnePlus is finally launching the long-awaited Android 11 beta open for the OnePlus 7 and 7T lines.

The update comes in the form of Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro. However, the transition to Android 11 for these phones has its challenges, at least for now.

According to the company, the build erases all data from OnePlus 7T devices if you download it from the links provided in the official forum. Therefore, you should only download it using the manual method only if you are willing to proceed with a complete data wipe of your phones. OTA updates are not affected by this, says the company, but be sure to back up your data.

There are also some known issues with the open beta for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. OnePlus warns that there is a potential risk of increased energy consumption and instability. The gallery application may be slower to load under some conditions and some photos may not be displayed. Bluetooth devices such as headphones, speakers, and others may not play sound occasionally. Finally, adjusting the brightness may take some conditions.

Should you update?

It looks like you will have to make a lot of compromises if you download this beta version of the latest Oxygen OS 11. Even though it updates its phones with things like a new UI, newly added HEVC codec, dark mode features and more, it is probably wiser to wait for now and wait for a more stable build.

If you are still looking forward to getting the current beta versions for your OnePlus 7 and 7T devices, you should know that they are only available for unlocked models without an operator from now on. You will need at least 30% battery power and a minimum of 3 GB of available storage space to install the update.
