The biggest iPad update of all time may be just days away

Another rumor is pointing to the imminent arrival of the next iPad Pro this month, so it could only take a few days. Since there is a consensus that this means totally new screen technology and the fastest processor from Apple to date, this is very good news.

But, as TS Eliot wrote, “April is the cruelest month,” and if you’re on the iPad mini design team, you may think it’s appropriate, because the same informant says the next iPad mini is not coming out this month. , in the end. For the record, Eliot’s Waste Land is talking about deeper things, but it’s the best reference to April in the opening line of any poem since Chaucer, so I wanted to quote him.

Anyway, where were we?

Ah yes, the tip comes from someone who calls himself Uncle Pan, who at Weibo said he dreamed of the products that Apple would reveal at his “April conference” – not that such an event has been confirmed – and that he believes in the next iPad Pro will be revealed as scheduled. He also said that “the full-screen iPad mini is out of the game” and that the AirPods will also be updated. More about that last part of Gordon Kelly here at Forbes.

Note that this does not mean that there will not be an iPad mini this month, instead, if there is, it will have a design similar to the current model, instead of the supposed upgrade to one with a larger screen that eliminates the home button in favor of Face ID or Touch ID on the power button, like the latest iPad Air.

Even so, my guess is that since that updated iPad mini, it is rumored that Apple will not update its smallest tablet until it is ready to launch the all-new model.

In that case, it looks like the iPad Pro will be the focus of this month’s reveal. I’m also ruling out the possibility of an upgrade to the basic iPad, since Apple’s latest iPad, the eighth generation model, is only six months old.

So it looks like we can expect an extremely fast processor, called A14X, which is likely to be a tuned version of the A14 found on the latest iPhones and iPad Air. It is rumored that this will be as fast as the M1 chip in the latest MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, which will be incredible.

The screen will likely look stunning, upgraded from LCD LED to miniLED on the larger 12.9-inch model, while maintaining the normal screen on the 11-inch model.

As for when we should expect this, well, there has been a lot of confusion about it. The rumors of a March 23 event were completely wrong – although, as readers of my weekly AppleUnboxed newsletter know, I rejected that idea weeks ago.

So, if you’re pushing me for a date, I suppose that Tuesday, April 13th or Wednesday, April 14th is when the iPad Pro (and AirPods and some accessories) will be revealed. At most, it could be the following week, but I don’t think so.

Not much, then.
