After a recent wave of new phones from OnePlus, Alive, Xiaomi, and others, it now appears that Sony is next with plans to launch a new Xperia phone on April 14.

Sony recently gave a tip when it updated the banner on Xperia YouTube page while also sending out invitations to members of the media. Sony’s banner doesn’t give any hints about the specific device or devices you want to advertise, but Sony’s new flagship is expected to be the Xperia 1 Mark III, with rumors that Sony could bring back the Xperia Compact also in some way.

According to leaks and a rendering posted by Steve Hemmerstofer (also known as @OnLeaks), the Xperia 1 III is expected to maintain the minimalist design used in previous Xperia phones, while presenting specifications that could rival Samsung’s Galaxy S21 + or possibly even the S21 Ultra. OnLeaks says the Xperia 1 III will have a 6.5-inch 4K OLED screen with very thin bezels and a triple rear camera with a Zeiss’ T * lens coating and possibly a periscope-style telephoto camera designed by Sony under the Cybershot brand.

As you would expect from a high-end phone in 2021, the Xperia 1 III is also accredited to come with support for 5G connectivity, along with stereo speakers, a bonus shortcut button (which can also function as a dedicated camera shutter button) and a fingerprint sensor built into the phone’s power button.

Notably, there are rumors that the Xperia 1 III includes a dedicated 3.5mm audio connector and a microSD card slot, which are two features that Samsung has abandoned in recent Galaxy S phones. For me, that puts Sony is in a very interesting position because, for the first time in years, the Xperia line may be the best alternative for The most popular phones from Samsung, especially with It looks like LG is about to exit the cell phone market.

According to the Chinese pourer ZACKBUKS (via TechRadar), other Xperia 1 III specifications, including a 120 Hz refresh rate for its 6.5 inch screen, a Snapdragon 888 chip, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (or more, depending on configuration).

Unfortunately, there is a lot less information about the supposed Xperia Compact, in addition to having a 5.5 inch screen, which is slightly larger than the iPhone 12 Mini’s 5.4 inch screen, but only slightly smaller than something like the Pixel 5 with its 6 inch screen. And if that’s not enough, there’s a chance that Sony will also announce updated phones for the Xperia 5 and Xperia 10 lines at your event too.

Regardless, if Sony can continue to leverage the fantastic technology it puts into its state-of-the-art mirrorless cameras, while launching a lot of premium features and increasing operator support in the United States, the Xperia 1 Mark III may be just the that Sony needs to make a big comeback in the smartphone market.
