Ronald D. Moore developing the Magic Kingdom TV universe at Disney Plus

Ronald D. Moore is developing several TV projects on Disney Plus, which will be set in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Variety confirmed with sources.

The first of these projects will be “The Explorers and Adventurers Society”, which Moore will write and will be executive producer. The series is loosely based on the fictional organization of the same name that is part of the Disney theme park tradition. In the show, the theme lands and characters of Disney parks and classic films really exist in another reality.

Moore is also working with the Disney Imagineering Team on other projects, which would amount to an interconnected universe similar to Marvel or “Star Wars”, but within the world of Disney theme parks, with Moore overseeing the franchise. Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis of Moore’s Tall Ship Productions are also involved in all projects.

Disney and 20th Television representatives declined to comment.

News of the development comes shortly after it is reported that Moore signed a lucrative multi-year general contract with 20th Television, which is now part of Walt Disney Television. Moore is a longtime Disney fan and is said to have spent offers from several studios to work with the company. It was previously announced that Moore and Jon M. Chu are working on developing a “Swiss Family Robinson” series for Disney Plus.

Moore’s most recent projects are the alternate history space racing drama “For All Mankind” at Apple and “Outlander” at Starz. He is well known for his previous work in the “Star Trek” universe, as well as for developing the highly regarded “Battlestar Galactica” reboot for Syfy.

He is represented by the CAA.

News of the potential universe of Magic Kingdom TV arrives while Disney is going full steam ahead in building such franchises on Disney Plus based on its most popular IP. The streaming giant has already started launching programs set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of “WandaVision”, with “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on deck for March. Disney has also enjoyed tremendous success with its live action series “Star Wars”, “The Mandalorian”, with several new “Star Wars” projects currently underway.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to spread the news about Magic Kingdom.
