Report: Eagles continue to cut wage ceiling with restructuring of Darius Slay

The Eagles continued to make room for matches before the start of the new year for the league, restructuring cornerback Darius Slay’s contract.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Eagles released $ 9.14 million in capitalization space by restructuring Slay’s business.

Slay had a cap of $ 15.75 million in 2021, so it appears that the Eagles reduced that number to $ 6.61 million.

Including previous moves with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson and Malik Jackson, the Eagles saved about $ 30.5 million under their projected adjusted salary cap of around $ 208 million, which is the $ 185 million limit for the entire connects about $ 22 million more in transportation from 2020.

OverTheCap had the Eagles about $ 43 million over the limit before Slay’s restructuring, so they still have some work to do.

All NFL teams must comply with the limit by March 17.

Although details were not immediately available, Eagles generally create a cap by converting the base salary into a bonus, which reduces the limit reached the following year by prorating the bonus over a period of years, while the basis counts against the limit in the year in which it is paid.

While this adds money to its limit in future years over the life of the restructured contracts, the Eagles are much better equipped to deal with the increase in attacks in the years to come.

The Eagles reportedly started work on a restructuring of the Brandon Graham contract, which if both sides agree to the deal will reduce Graham’s current limit of $ 17.93 million to an as yet undetermined amount.

They reduced $ 10.9 million from next year’s limit by reformulating Jeffery’s contract in preparation to release him with a post-June 1 designation and saved $ 8 million by doing the same thing with Malik Jackson’s contract.

Dave Zangaro explained these tricky tricks to save the cap here.

The Eagles acquired the Lions Slay last March in exchange for choices from the 3rd and 5th rounds in last year’s draft and signed a $ 50.5 million three-year contract with him.
