One dead, 10 wounded on strike in northern Syria

Missile strikes in northern Syria, near the border with Turkey, killed one person and wounded at least eleven others on Friday, Turkish state media and a source from the Turkish-backed faction that controls the region said.

Explosions shook local oil refineries near the cities of al-Bab and Jarablus, causing major fires, a witness and Turkish state news agency Anadolu said.

The National Army source, who controls areas in northwest Syria where Turkish troops are present, said the missile attacks caused the explosions, injuring eleven people.

Anadolu said they were ballistic missiles and it was unclear who carried out the attacks, who said they had injured 18 people.

Turkey supported fighters seeking to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, but the Syrian president, with Russian and Iranian help, pushed the insurgents into a pocket in the northwest of the country.
