Former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz appears to be delighted to have met with his former Eagles offensive coordinator and current Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich.
One of the first things Reich will have to do is find a way to get Wentz to the player he was in 2017. With Reich on the Eagles’ coaching staff, Wentz pitched for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2017, statistics that are better than 2,620, 16 touchdowns and 15 Wentz interceptions last season.
Appearing on ESPN’s Rise, ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlvosky said that Wentz has to go back to the basics of his pitch mechanics and his set of legs to be a successful quarterback once again.
“What happens sometimes with defenders is that they come in and are so talented that you can start abandoning the daily commitments of the basics because the talent carries you,” said Orlovsky. “It slowly gets less and less. Once this becomes a sharp gap, talent will no longer be good enough to sustain you. It will take that daily commitment from the technical team and from Carson to really improve these things and commit, because once they get it back and consistency, that’s when you will see the talent shine again. “
The Eagles traded Wentz with the Colts for a 2021 draft choice in the third round and a 2022 conditional choice in the second round. The conditional choice can become a first-round selection, depending on the number of snaps that Wentz plays.
