Lexus is up to something, but right now, only Toyota’s luxury division knows the truth. Lexus continues to use social media to publicize a new F-Sport product without any further support details to continue. At the moment, we only know that it has an engine cover with the Lexus F sports logo, red paint and a door.
Lexus is planning to bring us a brand new F-Sport model scheduled to debut on February 22, 2021, at 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time. Until then all we can do is speculate based on some clues released by Lexus and put together by our team.
Lexus F-Sport and full-on F products are unique races among other luxury performance cars. Instead of using the most advanced technology to achieve diminishing returns on performance, Lexus sports products are more exciting. If you were to cross-purchase any of Lexus’ performance cars with rivals based solely on technical specifications, Lexus would not sell any of its sports product offerings.
Lexus F products were defined by the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter 2UR V8 engine that stands out from its reduced turbocharged competition. As Toyota and Lexus are looking for more economical transmission systems that also need to remain competitive, we expect the 2UR V8 to live in the past as one of the last great naturally aspirated V8 engines.
Instead of this upcoming F-Sport Lexus, we hope to see at least one new turbocharged V6 engine, which will enable Lexus to compete with the intermediate-performance models of its German rivals. Although a turbocharged engine does not have the character of a V8, its performance potential would be difficult to ignore and allow Lexus to compete against its rivals who have achieved impressive performance with similar engines.
