O Mets announced today that they claimed southpaw reliever Stephen Tarpley exemption from Miami Marlins exemptions.

The Marlins designated Tarpley for assignment on the 3rd after the signing of the Ross Detwiler.

Tarpley, 27, was drafted by the Orioles in the third round of the 2013 draft, but made his debut for the Yankees after being part of two different professions as a secondary league player.

More than 44.1 professional innings, Tarpley has a career of 6.65 ERA, a 1.79 WHIP, 11.7 K / 9 and a 1.6 HR / 9.

Tarpley adds the necessary depth to a Mets bullpen that has only one southpaw on the 40-Man list: Daniel Zamora. Tarpley also has two options in the minor leagues.

Tarpley’s numbers showed an improvement in 2020 when you look deeper than the back of the baseball card.

He lowered his Line Drive Rate from 30.4% to 17.9%, his home run to fly ratio dropped from 13.0% to 10.0% and threw 43.6% of his pitches into the zone, a 36.0% increase

The list of 40 men is now 36.
