Mets hiring Albert Almora to reinforce depth of field

The Mets added depth to the central field.

The team agreed to an agreement with free agent Albert Almora on Sunday morning, Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed. Almora, 26, has spent the past five seasons with the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets lost field player George Springer, who signed with the Blue Jays for a six-year, $ 150 million contract. They were also in negotiations with the Red Sox free agent, Jackie Bradley Jr.

A good glove that has been fighting offensively for the past two seasons, Almora figures to serve as a right-handed alternative for Brandon Nimmo. In 28 games during the short 2020 season, Almora had a .167 / .265 / .200 cutoff line in just 34 plate appearances. In 2019, Almora reduced .236 / .271 / .381 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs in 363 plate appearances.
