Upon completion of the Star Wars Following the Trilogy, it seemed that we would never see Mark Hamill play Luke Skywalker again. After all, not only was the legendary Jedi killed at Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, but any potential return would make no sense in The Mandaloriantimeline, with the Disney Plus show taking place about 25 years before The force awakens.
It is true that the actors are known for their versatility, but the idea of 69-year-old Mark Hamill trying to pass himself by three decades younger would have been overkill. However, after months of rumors and speculation that he would be involved in the aforementioned Disney Plus series, Luke appeared at the end of Season 2 in the biggest fan service help to grace a show that thrives on him.
The CGI used to reduce Hamill’s age was not great, but since Luke Skywalker was interacting with Din Djarin and Baby Yoda, we gave it a try. Of course, he can always be a Force Ghost if any of the movies or TV shows are planning to continue canonically from where The Rise of Skywalker left out, but anything more substantial can be complicated unless the reducing effects of aging are greatly improved between now and when or where it appears next.
