Kimrey is expected to enter the program as the new tight-ended trainer. Bobby Bentley has served as the tight end coach for Gamecocks in each of the past two seasons. Bentley’s role in the future with Gamecocks is not yet clear.

Kimrey, a former Gamecocks defender, took Hammond to his fourth consecutive SCISA championship this year. In the 17 years that Kimrey led the program, the Skyhawks have won 12 state championships.

“I trained high school for 12 years, my father has a 41-year coaching career. I value college football coaches more than anything, ”Kimrey told TheBigSpur.com in December 2015 in the story listed above. “I see tremendous potential at the university. I think we are close to a phase in Carolina football where we can do things that we have never done before. Our facilities are top notch now and our city is exploding. There are many people who want to start business here and students want to come here. There is a confluence of positive energy at the university and in the city that will make South Carolina football a success ”.

Kimrey played for South Carolina from 2000-02 and then joined the coaching staff when his career as a graduate assistant ended.

Since Kimrey has two players on the South Carolina football team who are in their first year on the program, he must join the team in a field role. Defensive line Jordan Burch and Alex Huntley signed with Gamecocks last season. Burch played eight games for South Carolina this season and totaled 19 tackles, with 2.5 of them going for a loss of yards. Huntley, who was injured most of the year, played only one game, which was against Texas A&M.
