Plemons will lead a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Jesse Plemons joined Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in Flower Moon Killers, the big budget thriller that Martin Scorsese is directing for Apple.

The cast is a big blow to Plemons, who for years anchored productions or stole scenes with his performances in supporting roles. And it coincides with him being sought for lead roles not just by Scorsese, with whom he worked in 2019 The Irish, but also by Jordan Peele, who offered him the male lead role in his latest thriller.

The hope was that the Plemons would do both, but the schedule, ultimately, could not be resolved. Peele’s film is filming in early summer, while Moon flower shoots from May to late summer.

Regardless, Plemons now finds himself in a role that originally would have been played by DiCaprio before the Oscar winner moved on to a secondary role.

The script, written by Eric Roth and based on David Grann’s bestseller, takes place in the 1920s in Oklahoma, against the backdrop of the serial murder of members of the wealthy Osage nation, a series of brutal crimes that came to be known as the realm of terror.

Plemons will play Tom White, the lead FBI agent who investigates the murders. Lily Gladstone will play Mollie Burkhart, an Osage married to Ernest Burkhart, who is the nephew of a powerful local farmer. DiCaprio is the nephew, while De Niro is the strong-handed farmer.

Scorsese produces and directs Flower Moon ”for Apple Studios and Imperative Entertainment. Next to Scorsese are Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas from Imperative and DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.

Plemons, who has acted since the age of three, has made headlines for his work in the acclaimed cult TV drama, Friday Night Lights and later as a villain in Breaking Bad. His recent films include Steven Spielberg The Post and the successful comedy Game night, and can currently be seen at Judas and the Black Messiah, which is generating a buzz in this award season. Movies can include Jungle Cruise, with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, and horror film Horns.

Plemons is represented by TalentWorks and attorney David Matlof.
