Gunner Stockton disables Gamecocks

South Carolina’s best football recruit of 22 has been removed.

Gunner Stockton, the country’s main double threat signal caller for the 2022 class, announced his resignation from the University of South Carolina. Stockton released a statement on social media detailing his decision.

Stockton originally committed to Gamecocks in August 2020. At the time, South Carolina was still being coached by coach Will Muschamp, and Mike Bobo was still the offensive coordinator for Gamecocks.

A lot has changed since then, as Muschamp was fired mid-season and Bobo chose to leave the coaching staff for Auburn, just days after signing a contract to remain in Columbia.

Stockton is said to have a very close bond with the Bobo family, which makes Auburn a favorite in the future.

South Carolina still has Connor Shaw on the team, which Stockton points to as a childhood idol while growing up. Connor’s brother Jaybo is currently the coach of Stockton High School, so the relationship with the Shaw may still be in favor of Gamecocks.

During his junior season, Stockton shot for 3,128 yards and 45 touchdowns. He also added 1,581 yards and 26 scores on the ground.

Stockton was the only member of the 2022 class, and was set to become the highest-scoring Gamecocks quarterback in the program’s history. Now, however, Gamecocks will have to convince you to go back to class.

If the team can show a marked improvement in the field in 2021, they can put him back on the boat, but for now, things don’t look good for Gamecocks.
