Group denied COVID vaccine at CT CVS after catching NY ferry

WATERFORD – The police were called to the CVS pharmacy on Boston Post Road on Thursday afternoon, when a group of elderly people from New York came to get coronavirus vaccines, officials said.

The police chief said he was notified by a representative of the Ledge Light Health District that the group had traveled to the area after apparently scheduling vaccination appointments through the CVS app.

The group, however, was turned down by local health officials because they were from outside Connecticut, said Chief Brett Mahoney. Only state residents and people who work here are eligible to be vaccinated in Connecticut.

The Waterford CVS is among a small number that make online appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations, according to the company’s website.

Mahoney said the group, aged 75 and over, was upset, but left without problems after the police were called.

“Our officers went to speak to them. They understood, they weren’t happy about it, but they left, ”said Mahoney.

The group traveled to Waterford on the Cross Sound Ferry, which transports people between Orient, NY and New London.
