GameStop is getting its own Pokémon card. PokeBeach reports that GameStop will issue a promotional Flapple Pokémon card starting this Friday, March 19th. The card is a holofoil-free version of the Rebel Clash Flapple, but has the GameStop logo stamped under the card. Although this is not the first time that GameStop has distributed Pokémon cards, this marks the first time that they have distributed a stamped card. PokeBeach also reports that GameStop may also be giving a Gigantamax Flapple to Pokémon Sword and Shield, although they haven’t been able to confirm this or not. GameStop has already distributed several other Pokémon Gigantamax to Pokémon Sword and Shield with offers of Pokémon cards.
The giveaways are probably an unofficial link to the next launch of the “Battle Styles” expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set, which is inspired by the Armor Island DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield, will be released this week and will add a new Battle Styles mechanic to the card game. Players can build around two different battle styles, with card skills in synergy with other cards that use the same style. Like all Pokémon cards, the Battle Styles expansion should be in high demand, so fans may want to go to GameStop earlier if they want a chance to steal the promotional card and some cards from the new expansion.
Pokémon cards are relatively scarce in many stores at the moment, due to a mix of above-average demand thanks to the resurgence in popularity and low supply due to production problems caused by the pandemic.
