Explosion Rips Front Off Northeast Philadelphia Home, Hurts 2 People – NBC10 Philadelphia

The front of a house in northeastern Philadelphia collapsed during an explosion on Tuesday afternoon.

The Philadelphia firefighters could be seen pouring water on the exposed front of the house along Algard Street, near Levick Street. Dozens of firefighters responded to the scene, the Philadelphia Fire Department said.

The blast occurred around 1:20 pm and left a 61-year-old man injured, the Philadelphia police said. He was rushed to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

A second man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, police said.

SkyForce10 entered the scene shortly after 1:30 pm. Debris and bricks were scattered across the front lawn. By 2 pm, any fire appeared to have been put out.

Both neighboring houses also appear to have some external damage.

The cause of the explosion was under investigation. PGW teams were at the scene, police said.
