President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and White House lawyer Pat Cipollone reportedly received letters from defamation lawyers instructing them to save all records related to allegations that Dominion Voting Systems played a key role allegedly deceiving Trump in an election victory.
Giuliani was also warned by Dominion’s lawyers that “litigation on these issues is imminent,” according to a new CNN report, which showed a copy of the letter.
The letters to Cipollone and Giuliani allegedly demanded that Giuliani stop “making defamatory allegations against Dominion”, which makes voting machines.
Trump, his campaign lawyers and allies, including attorney Sidney Powell, claimed, without evidence, that the illegal vote changes made to the vote counting machines fraudulently gave Joe Biden the national presidential election.
Powell last week received a similar letter from Dominion’s lawyers about his “savage, known to be baseless and false accusations” about the company. The letter demanded that she withdraw her claims and preserve the documents related to them.
Giuliani and a White House spokesman did not immediately comment when contacted by CNBC about the CNN report. CNBC solicited comments from Dominion and its lawyers.
The article came in the wake of a lawsuit filed by Dominion security director Eric Coomer against the campaign by Trump, Giuliani, Powell and several conservative media outlets.
The Coomer lawsuit says he became the target of death threats and other harmful communications because of the defendants’ false claims made about Dominion machines.
Dominion posted a page on its website entitled “Correcting the Records: Facts and Rumors” to address complaints about the company, which it called “disinformation” and a threat to democracy.
“Unsubstantiated claims about the integrity of the system or the accuracy of the results have been rejected by electoral authorities, subject matter experts and outsourced fact verifiers,” says the page.
“Malicious and misleading false allegations about Dominion have resulted in dangerous levels of threats and harassment against the company and its employees, as well as election officials.”
Biden was confirmed last week as the winner of the election by the Electoral College. Trump refused to admit defeat.
