Describing the victory over Florida

South Carolina No. 4/5 raised a flag and then rolled Florida 75-59 at the SEC opening for both teams. The Gamecocks were led by 28 points from Aliyah Boston, 16 rebounds, four blocks and 22 points from Zia Cooke, five assists and two steals. Both teams struggled at the start, with Gamecocks leading 14-6 in a first quarter with a trend toward turning.

After Lavender Briggs of Florida scored the first seven points of the second quarter for the Gators to reduce Carolina’s lead to three in 16-13, the Gamecocks ended the game with a 15-0 run in a four-minute period, including nine Boston, who had a double-double at halftime. Gamecocks led 39-18 at the break and never looked back on their 20th consecutive SEC win.

We are the champions

Well, at least No. 1. Gamecocks raised a banner on Thursday night before the game, which simply declared No. 1 #Unanimous 2019-2020. Dawn Staley would have preferred the words National Champions somewhere, but the banner closes what could or should have been last season. Now the team can focus on the task at hand: winning the SEC and running for the 2021 National Championship. The big white belt with a big No. 1 joins the SEC 2020 regular season and SEC Championship banners that are hanging near the National Championship Track 2017. None of the players or fans present knew what would be on the banner before the revelation, so there was a good surprise in late 2020.
