Denzel Washington cries with praise from son John David

Denzel Washington’s eyes watered when he heard some sweet words of praise from his son, actor John David Washington.

The 66-year-old Oscar winner was interviewing Access Hollywood for his new film, “The Little Things,” when host Sibley Scoles shared what his 36-year-old son recently said about him.

His son was reacting to the news that his father had just been voted the greatest actor of the 21st century by The New York Times.

“It was about time,” he said in an earlier interview with Access Hollywood. “I think he is one of the best at doing that, so it was a very proud moment for our whole family.”

Washington was shocked to hear his son’s words read back to him and took a long pause to compose himself.

“Wow, I’m at a loss for words,” he said. “I forgot what the question was, but I’m at a loss for words. I didn’t know he said that.”

The proud father also took the time to shout out to his daughter Olivia.

“Watch out for his sister. His sister is a great actress. Olivia Washington, ”he said.

Washington has four children with his wife of almost four decades, actress and singer Pauletta Washington: John David, 36, Katia, 33, and twins Malcolm and Olivia, 29.

John David Washington achieved fame in his own right thanks to his roles in 2018’s “BlacKkKlansman” and the 2020 science fiction thriller “Tenet”. He is also starring alongside Zendaya in the upcoming Netflix drama “Malcolm & Marie”.

It seems that he and his father have always supported each other. John David recalled his parents’ emotional reaction when he was nominated for a Golden Globe for “BlacKkKlansman”.

“My dad woke me up. He said, ‘It’s time, it’s time, come on!’ , ”He told the Los Angeles Times in 2018.“ We took NBC. Obviously, we applaud when we hear Adam [Driver’s] name and peak [Lee’s] name. And then it happened; I was very happy. My father and I hugged each other so tightly. My mom is on her way to Chicago to audition for ‘Hamlet’, so we called her and had a prayer session and we were crying. “

John David has been spending a lot of quality time with his parents lately. Like many, he returned home for a time during the coronavirus pandemic.

During a September interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, he told guest host Samuel L. Jackson that his “homework” at home “was to make sure I got to dinner on time”.

When Jackson argued that this was not technically a chore, John David clarified that he also cooked a little at home.

“There it is, I made my living that way,” he said.
