Country star Morgan Wallen apologizes after racial slander

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) – Country star Morgan Wallen apologized after a video appeared showing him shouting racial slur.

The video, which was first published on TMZ on Tuesday night, showed him outside a house in Nashville, Tennessee, shouting bad words.

Wallen said in a statement to TMZ that he is embarrassed and sorry.

“I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slander that I would like to be able to remove. There is no excuse for using this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using that word. I promise to do better, ”said his statement.

Wallen’s new album, “Dangerous: The Double Album”, reached three weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. He had hits with songs like “Whiskey Glasses” and “Up Down” with Florida Georgia Line.

The success came despite a series of mistakes and stumbles for which he also apologized. Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in May 2020, after being expelled from a bar in downtown Nashville.

In October, “Saturday Night Live” was released him from a scheduled presentation on his show after he violated the COVID-19 protocols when videos appeared on his social networks at a fan party in Alabama. He was later asked to return to the show in December, where he appeared in a sketch mocking himself.

Other stars in the country have publicly criticized their actions.

“In fact, it is representative of our city because this is not his first ‘fight’ and he just broke down a huge streaming record last month, regardless,” tweeted country star Maren Morris. “We all know that it was not the first time that he used that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs, without resources ”.
