South Carolina men’s basketball has canceled SC State’s hosting on Wednesday and disrupted all team activities, the program announced in a statement late on Monday.
“The Gamecock basketball program continues to follow local health, safety, campus, NCAA and Southeast Conference protocols,” the statement said. “The status of competitions scheduled for the next two-week period will be determined soon and updates will be released when available.”
Gamecocks (1-2) had just resumed the team’s activities after suspending all activities on December 8 due to the positive results of COVID-19. They had to cancel a December 10 meeting with Wofford, a December 14 street game against George Washington and a December 19 meeting against rival Clemson.
South Carolina has played just three games since the season began on November 28. The Gamecocks lost to Liberty and defeated Tulsa at the Hall of Fame Class in Kansas City and lost to then number. 10 Houston on the 5th December road. Coach Frank Martin said at the end of last week that the team would train with eight players on Saturday, December 19 and continue this week, gradually adding players back as they come out of isolation due to a positive case or quarantine due to tracking of contact.
With the December 23 game against SC State now canceled, the next game on the schedule is the SEC’s opening against Kentucky on the road on December 29. I AM.
