Boeing 737 slides off the runway when returning shortly after takeoff

A cargo plane from Indonesia that returned to base shortly after takeoff due to a technical problem skidded on the runway when it landed at Jakarta airport, said the air navigation operator.

Trigana Air’s Boeing 737-400 returned to Halim Perdanakusumah airport about two minutes after takeoff on Saturday, AirNav spokesman Yohanes Harry Douglas Sirait said.

Several flights were diverted from the facilities to Soekarno Hatta Airport in Banten, West Java, because the plane was blocking runways.

The aircraft was scheduled to fly to Makassar, South Sulawesi, he said. The National Transport Safety Committee has launched an investigation into the incident, according to Sirait.
