A new Windows 10 update fixes the problem of some printers locking computers

Microsoft is fixing the problem of trying to use certain printers to scare your Windows 10 computer and cause the screen to turn blue. If you (or your IT department) have dealt with the problem, today’s update should allow you to get back to printing.

In the update notes, Microsoft says the problem affected only “certain printers that use some applications”, but does not clarify which ones. It seemed to impact some Kyocera, Ricoh and Zebra printers, and if you had one, it’s the kind of error that would be extremely annoying – or worse, it breaks the workflow, if printing is a necessity and not something you do occasionally.

If this issue is affecting you, download the update from Settings> Update and security> Windows Update and click Check for updates. Hopefully, after the update, your printer and computer can be friends again. Let the ink once again find the paper, and your computer does not need to be restarted after a major failure.
